Little seaside village of Azenhas do Mar

About 30 kilometers from Lisbon, Portugal, Azenhas do Mar, is a small seaside village, built precariously onto cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and is located within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.

Historical Dutch homes at Zaanse Schans

Located in Northern Holland, Zaanse Schans was created by architect Jaap Schipper who wanted to promote the industrial history of a typical Zaans residential area so he did so by importing windmills and historical Dutch homes. As soon as I entered Zaanse Schans I was instantly captivated with the quaint and picturesque neighbourhood.

Perfect weekend getaway Dinant

We visited Dinant for a quick weekend getaway. Dinant is in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium. It is a lovely little city in the valley of the Meuse River. The steep, narrow valley necessitated the city’s growth to be long and narrow along the banks of the river. It makes quite the picturesque setting.

Picturesque Ålesund is hard to find

Hidden away in the fragmented coastline of central Norway lies the picturesque gem of Alesund. This city surrounded by islands and fjords boasts not only beautiful landscapes, but some of the country’s most exquisite architecture. Here, wonderful art nouveau buildings line the waterfront really just putting Alesund over the top as one of Norway’s most scenic spots.

A breath of fresh air in Tuscany

Tuscany is just as picturesque as it appears in every film and photograph. Rolling hills of green vineyards in every direction scattered with pale stucco villas and castles. It was a breath of fresh air – a great place to enjoy the peace and quiet or to partake in top notch wine tasting and dining, depending on what you’re looking for. One could easily spend a week or two exploring Tuscany alone, but as always, we felt a need to keep moving on.

A Tourist in my own Country

Amidst rolling hills and meadows of the British countryside is The Cotswolds, a very famous place for people to explore. Secret gardens, charming rivers and lakes, and quaint architecture in the villages are all part and parcel of what to expect in the Cotswolds, and its location in the Thames Valley, just an hour or so away from London Paddington makes it one of the best getaways from urban life.

Update: The picturesque village Bibury that is taking you back in time to fairytales with dwarfs or with Harry Potter. Low windows, honey-coloured stone houses, enchant the eye and tickle the imagination.
